The family has left and it was indeed a very busy holiday. So we decided that we needed some R&R and set off to the desert on 2 January.
What an amazing place to be. We still cannot believe that we are so fortunate to spend time here.
We set up camp and the kids had a ball on the sand dunes until...
...we got some visitors. Very curious camels invaded our camp (or let me rather say 'we invaded their camp'). They sniffed all over and even had a go at Megan's cold drink :-) One camel in particular visited our camp for such a long that we eventually decided to name her "Magriet", the toothless old dame - haha - hehe :-)
The next morning, passports in hand, we set off to Hatta Pools, Oman.
Crossing the border was easier than expected. We just showed our UAE ID cards and off we went. It is absolutely amazing how the landscape can change within a 20 kilometre range. From complete desert to a mountainous wonderland.
We stopped at the Shell and filled up - a full 0.12OR (Omani Riyal) per litre!! That is AED1.20 per litre.
Paul tried to put the Pajero through her paces and into the Wadi we went. It must have been a little scary at times for Edwin as he went completely silent. The Wadi is covered in gravel and rocks but still very easy to get through with the Pajero.
We found a lovely camping spot for the night without another soul in sight. It felt a little strange for us camping in the middle of nowhere with no sign of civilisation around. After setting up camp the kids each made their own little fire, as well as one huge camp fire. It was so quiet and peaceful.
On Wednesday morning we woke up to a very cloudy sky. As we were deep into the Wadi we decided it might be safer to pack up early and clear out! We had such a lovely camping trip and have already started planning our next outing :-)
