Today was a day of baking (lots of it) and buying a bargain. At the breakfast table we talked about good old comfort food and this is what happened:
We started the morning off by making some bread dough in the bread maker for vetkoek as Edwin could not remember what vetkoek was - how sad :-(
After I beat the eggs for the carrot cake, I realised that we were out of baking powder. Arghhh... Off to the shop we went when Paul saw an advertisement for a second hand cane garden set. Luckily for us it was still available - normal wear and tear but overall in good condition.
Back home, patio set in place and on with the carrot cake. O yes, we also found some fat juicy lamb shanks at the shop and into the pot they go. Paul got going with the vetkoek and then we realised that we cannot eat vetkoek without some 'kerrie' mince. One, two, three and the meat mix was done!! Frosted the cake (and six cupcakes with the leftover batter) and finally, all done :-)
Now its time to sit down, watch a movie and enjoy all our hard work. Vetkoek and mince, carrot cake for desert and we decided to let the most tender cooked lamb shanks marinate in the sauce until later this evening. Cannot wait...
So on the menu for supper will be lamb shanks and mielies - yummy!!!
